Successive Minima and Radii

چکیده
In this note we present inequalities relating the successive minima of a o-symmetric convex body and the successive inner and outer radii of the body. These inequalities build a bridge between known inequalities involving only either the successive minima or the successive radii.

Estimating Sizes of a Convex Body by Successive Diameters and Widths
The second theorem of Minkowski establishes a relation between the successive minima and the volume of a 0-symmetric convex body. Here we show corresponding inequalities for arbitrary convex bodies, where the successive minima are replaced by certain successive diameters and successive widths. We further give some applications of these results to successive radii, intrinsic volumes and the latt...
متن کاملIntrinsic Volumes and Successive Radii
Motivated by a problem of Teissier to bound the intrinsic volumes of a convex body in terms of the inradius and the circumradius of the body, we give upper and lower bounds for the intrinsic volumes of a convex body in terms of the elementary symmetric functions of the so called successive inner and outer radii. These results improve on former bounds and, in particular, they also provide bounds...
متن کامل2 00 2 Successive Minima and Lattice Points
The main purpose of this note is to prove an upper bound on the number of lattice points of a centrally symmetric convex body in terms of the successive minima of the body. This bound improves on former bounds and narrows the gap towards a lattice point analogue of Minkowski’s second theorem on successive minima. Minkowski’s proof of his second theorem is rather lengthy and it was also criticis...
متن کاملSuccessive-Minima-Type Inequalities
We show analogues of Minkowski’s theorem on successive minima, where the volume is replaced by the lattice point enumerator. We further give analogous results to some recent theorems by Kannan and Lovász on covering minima.
متن کاملAn experimental study on hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flow in coarse-grained porous media
The equations of fluids in porous media are very useful in designing the rockfill and diversion dams, gabions, breakwaters and ground water reserves. Researches have been showed that the Forchheimer equation is not sufficient for the analysis of hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flows; because, in these flows, in addition to the hydraulic gradient and velocity, the variable of radius is...
